what is +P ammo and what is is useful for??

what is the actual difference between normal and +p ammo i know it is a hotter load but how much?

...depends on the cartridge and the manufacturer. I'm sure there probably some SAAMI specifications on just what the +P perameters are, but I don't know what they are.

Cartridge, Sammi/Sammi +P pressures
257Roberts, 45000CUP, 54000psi / 50000CUP, 58000psi
38S&W, 13000CUP, 17000PSI / 18500PSI
38S&W Special, 17000CUP, 17000psi / 20000CUP, 18500psi *May be a typo in my source.
45ACP, 21000psi, 23000psi

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

so i can say it is roughly a 10% increase in pressure.
to what changes in velocity does that increased pressure lead?
