Savage Model 170 stamped WESTPOINT ?

I have a rifle stamped WESTPOINT Model 474 Series B. The rifle is a Savage Model 170 pump action 30-30. Would like to know when these were manufactured and where the WESTPOINT name came from?

  I can't find anything in my books.I would you suggest you give Savage a call.They made three model 170s a 30/30 rifle a 30/30 carbine and a .35 Rem. rifle.I have all three and think they are great guns especially the .35 Rem.

  I think it is a store brand name like Western Field, Revelation, ect... I dont know wich store brand used Westpoint and when they were sold. The rifle is stamped Savage Arms but WESTPOINT is the store brand and Model 474 Series B are the store model numbers. Savages model number is 170 for this rifle.

  'westpoint' was a brand nome used by the old coast to coast store chain.

  The Savage 170 was discontinued in 1981.Blue Book says rifle made 1970 to 1981 in 30/30 and .35 Rem.(Rare) and the 170C Carbine made 1974 to 1981 .Carbine in 30/30 only.So a good guess would be around 1980. Hope this helps.
