Does anyone have any experience converting a Rem 788 to 6MM PPC?

    I have never reloaded before. What do I need to fabricate a 6mm PPC--assuming I have no equipment?

    Why not just buy ready made new brass? I have seen it advertised in I believe the Midway catalog. It would be so much easier.
    The atrition rate for making 6mm PPC rimmed out of 303 Savage brass sure cost me a bunch of money. We shoot them in BSA Mod 12/15 Martini single shots. However, shooting them everlastingly, has been a joy. That is to only size them once, loading from then on without sizing. That takes some time to get the case neck thickness just right, but it sure is worth the effort. Sincerely, onepopper

    Just neck resizing, turning and trimming from 7.62x39 brass.
    I believe the PPC cartridges specify small rifle primers so it's probably easiest to buy brass from Midway.

    Right off the bat, since you have never reloaded before, I would suggest that you look at another cartridge to start with for your first attempt. The 6PPC generally requires a lot more steps to make good brass and there is a wide variety of chambers to be found in the various rifles that shoot this cartridge. I think that you should learn the basics of reloading first, by starting with a more common cartridge and getting the needed experience first before biting off the 6PPC. Maybe consider the 6BR as a beginning.

    But if you insist on going to the 6PPC right away then you need to do some reading about the methods used to produce the brass. The brass that you need to start with is 220 Russian and it is available from many of the reloading suppliers that carry accuracy type equipment and supplies. The link is an introductory article about making 6PPC brass from Benchrest Central and it should get you on your way. Take the author's advice and get the book that he recommends. Do more reading in other books about precision reloading and be sure to check out some of the other forums that specialize in precision shooting.

    The new .223 WSSM is virtually the same thing and you could reload factory brass easily.

    They are not "virtually the same thing" by any means. Would you explain, please?

    The 6PPC uses .243" bullets.
    The 223WSSM uses .224" bullets.

    The 6PPC holds ~33.0 gr. of water.
    The 223WSSM holds ~56.0 of water.

    The 6PPC is 0.445" at the rim. (between .223 Rem. and .308 Win.)
    The 223WSSM is 0.535" at the rim. (.003" bigger than the Magnum bolt face .532")

    These are just the 3 easiest differences to point out.

    Nononsense your are right of course, meant to type .243 WSSM, but I must admit I gotta yen for the .223.

    Also Neck size is a factor-

    If you plan to use a custom Bench rifle Vs. Factory (Sako or Remington) The neck, of a standard Factory PPC .265, Custom bench guns
    can very, IE. .262, .263, 264. etc.
