shotgun shell reloading (2 parts)

BAck again, as usual.

Question one: what are the pro's and con's of "roll crimping" as opposed to the 6 or 8 pt crimping, and can it be used on spent shells that were 6 or 8 pt crimped?

Question two: I have a Lee Load All and was wondering if I can load 12 ga 3.5" shells with it, even if it means dropping 2 charges of shot and powder (each charge being 1/2 the requirement), and could I use the loader to crimp, or would I need to roll crimp?

  all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you reloading for the shotgun shooting sports, ie; sporting clays, trap shooting, or skeet? if you are thinking about loading for any of these sports, go to a good re loader, and forget about the Lee Load all. Just my humble opinion, but after loading at least 50k 12 Ga. rounds in the last thirty years, you would be way better off to get a loader that is set up for that specific job. Like a MEC Grabber, or a Possness-Warren. Using either of these fine loaders, you can load from 250 to 350 rounds an hour, and not have to worry about a roll crimp.
  And to answer your original question, I would stay with a machine that crimps the 8 or 6 point, as opposed to the roll crimp.

  rolls crimps were created mostly for paper hulls more than plastic. one reason to use roll crimps was to be able to place a paper cap or top on a shell, for buck and bb loads where wads wernt used. it kept pellet buffer from falling out loose crimps. go with 6 and 8 points and wave the roll crimps. just my 2 cents.
