Springfield 67f serial

My son recieved a Springfield 67f (manufactured by Savage) in 20 guage. I have look for a serial number but damned if I can find it. Can anyone tell me where in the hell they hid it? Hint. It is not on the reciever

  Prior to the enactment of the 1968 Gun Control Law. There was no legal requirement for serial numbers on certain longuns.
  As a economy move many manufacturers didn't put serial numbers on there inexpensive models.
