With ejection problems occuring in the 30 caliber carbine, how do you get to and clean the port ?

    Need help on identifying what I have. At top of chamber it is stamped u. s. carbine

    what looks like a 15 rd clip is stamped on rear LU
    clip release is stamped M
    barrel band with swivel to left side is stamped AI

    rifle has a front blade sight with ears and what I guess is a bayonet lug. rear sight is peep with dial adjustments and it also slides forward and back within the base. A number is stamped behind sight 6662370.There is also letters stamped under the rear of sight that appear to be INC DIV. Forward of the screw into the wood stock are the letters RIA . Right side of sight has letters I or L.R. CO.with the number 7160060 underneath. stock is neatly stamped with letters A A halfway between receiver and trigger assembly.Pistol grip area is neatly stamped with a P. Can anyone give me a rundown on this rifle? Any info would be appreciated.

    On the M1 Carbine, you remove the stock by loosening the barrel band, sliding it off the barrel, removing any screws at the rear of the receiver (in case it's a Universal), and then remove the fore end and any other wood. Now disassemble as for cleaning by removing the operating rod and bolt.
    The gas port/piston live in the front part of the receiver, sorta welded onto the bottom of the barrel-you'll need a gas piston wrench to adjust or remove the little nut so you can clean (without enlarging the port) the whole shebang.
    Have you not cleaned it before?
    What kind of ammo are you using?
    Have you cleaned out under the ejector?
    Do you oil/maintain it regularly?

    Removal of the gas piston is rarely necessary. That is why the nut is staked. That was the US Army Ordnance's way of saying, "If this has to be removed, you need to have it done by an armorer."

    Please describe the exact type of ejection problem you are experiencing. Type of ammo being used? Make of carbine? How did you lube it? Does the op rod move freely without the spring? Does the piston move freely? Have you checked the ejector & extractor for proper operation?
