I believe this stands for law enforcement.It had a bayonette lug and a flash suppressor. I have one of these.

Sorry Mr. Christian, I cannot add anything. I was trying to remember if I had ever heard what the "GB meant. All I could recall is hearing the "GB rifles described as "Government Models." That took care of the "G" for me, but I could not think of anything for the "B" except bayonet, and that did not seem to fit with "Government Model." Someplace I have some old Ruger law enforcement catalogs. I will have to locate one, and see if there is any explanation of the "GB." Until then, I accept Mr. Christian's explanation as logical and most likely correct. 0 -
one step further, if my memory serves me well, the 801 was folding stock and 802 was full stock. i sold my 802 in 87. it was semi auto. which one was the full auto designation? i cant remember.

this question also bugged me for some time as i own a couple of preban stainless mini 14 factory folders. i called ruger personally, and they tld me that all the "GB" stood for it "Government Barrel" to denote he flash supressor and the bayonet mount. all mini 14s with these two items were designated as "GB" models.
the "802" model was the non-folding standard stock, and "801" was the factory folder, which i might add have become extremely collectable over the years,sometimes fetchng as much as $2000.oo in NIB condition, with the average price hovering somewere between 700.00 and 1300.00, depending on condition.
also, from what i found out, Ruger sold the largest amount of there factory folders during the era when the tv series " the "A" team was on the air, as that was there primary assault style weapon.
also, they told me that the old myth that there were no factory FOLDING mini 14s built after 1994 is untrue, and that they were made in a very few cases special order for law enforment agencies, in both the standard and ranch models, but again, in very few quantities, and only for law enfocment agencies that requested them.0 -
I looked at a Mini-14 which I think was a GB. I need to look at it again. Dealer wants $ 550 and includes 4 hi-cap magazines (Ruger Factory mags?) Has flash hider. Overall in very nice condition. Is this a fair price ? Are these pretty accurate at 100 - 200 yrds ? Hopefully Ruger will make hi-cap Mini-14 mags again this fall. This just seems like an interesting rifle to own. 0
