Win 94 Receiver Blue

Anyone know how to reblue a 94 receiver? I know regular blue won't work. I have a pre crossbolt Trapper that is in excellent shape except for the receiver bluing. It is a shooter and I would like it to look better so folks won't think I don't take care of my toys. Paint ? - just kidding. [B)]-Don

    strip receiver, have it iron plated then blue. cost more than the gun is worth. I have had some luck useing brownells 'im' bluing but this is still a 'cold blue' and wears faster than a good 'hot' blue.

    Got several 94's with lots of history behind them. Receivers are all worn around the edges in just the right places from being carried. I think to myself when I look at that : "Dad's hand did that...mine continues it. I hope my kids think the same thing someday.."
    Being well-used and cared-for is not the same as babying and primping to impress friends...no insult intended in the least.

    Timberbeast - no offense taken, in fact I agree and will probably leave well enough alone. Mine has kind of a tan patina where the blue is worn away. Only reason it was bothering me was I picked up a pre 1992 94 Trapper in .44mag recently (still NIB) and it makes the old 30/30 look kind of ragged. Guess I'll have to wear down the new one so they will match. -Don

    The Old 30-30 probably could tell some Good Stories and put the Upstart .44 mag in its place...! Young Whipper Snapper....ain't been the miles yet.......

    We have had some luck with the 94's using Oxynate-S additive to the tanks and playing with the temperature a bit. Have to watch carefully and pull before it turns purple... Very inconsistent and not recommended.

    Some years ago we were set up for Black Chrome plating which was effective but prohibitively expensive for the customer.

    Nowdays we either just darken the metal as best we can with a rust blue or use a good baking lacquer depending on the customers budget.
