Help with stripper clips (for Mosin Nagant)
I'm having trouble getting these stripper clips to work (they're new 5 rnd steel clips). The rounds don't seem to want to slide off the clip no matter how hard I push - rather, they just turn downwards and the case rims start to bend the clip. Sometimes the clip will force its way past the feed mechanism down into the magazine. I'm left having the load the rounds one by one.
So my question is, is there some technique I'm missing? Or do I need to modify my stripper clips somehow? In my opinion they seem badly engineered.

It might be the brand of stripper clips. I have two varieties, and one works good, and the other works like you describe. 0 -
Chances are the stripper clips your having problems with are "Tapco's". Tapco is a American company that is selling M-N clips that are reputedly modern Chinese made repros.
You might hit the various on-line auctions and "Wanted" boards to see if you can score some original vintage strippers. Hopefully they would work better then the ones you're using now.
If all else fails get the Farrie Folk to cast a spell on your strippers, they probably have as much luck with them as they will have with GB.0 -
Yeah, upon investigating further it looks like I can either modify my Tapco clips (with a bit of machining experience which I dont have) or find some of the original, black clips manufactured at Izhevsk. Man, with the amount of Mosin Nagants on the market you'd think someone would manufacture some decent ones... 0
