  "Ballard Rifling" is simply another name for standard "cut" rifling, and it is considered to be "deep" cut... unlike the mirco-groove rifling that was used by Marlin.

  The Ballard Rifle Co was absorbed by Marlin sometime in the late 1800s. They may have had a style of rifling different from their contemporaries. During the same period, Pope and Stevens also made claims for the superiority of their respective rifling styles.
  The Ballard rifle is being reproduced either by The Montana Armoury or the Ballard rifle co, which may be the same outfit. They may have a better answer to your question.

  I think Bert has it exactly right. It is a modern term used by Marlin to differentiate from its Micro-groove rifling.
