Vintage toy or Vintage training dummy?

Found this at an estate sale that I arrived late to. This was the only gun left. The man that owned it had a lot of vintage military/vintage gun stuff. His son said he was in WWII but didn't know anything about it. He thought it was a toy. What the experts opion? The caliper is open to 6 inches. It's made of aluminum.


BTW, If ask too many silly question that don't belong in this forum please let me know...By hitting me upside the head. I'm just trying to learn.

  looks like a rubber training dummy 45 to me. ask more questions.....not less!

  I remember when you could buy these mock guns for about $1.00 plus Postage...That was back in the Late 1940's and up thru the 50's..

  Yup, Capt. Guess you're an OldPhart like me. I remember those too, though they were about $3.95 as I remember.
  
  They were cast aluminum, and you could get a whole bunch of different pistols/revolvers. It looked as though somebody made a mold from a real gun, then used it to cast aluminum duplicates.
  
  If I remember correctly, they were advertised in the inside back cover of many of the comic books of that era.
  
  I had a Luger which I lost or traded long ago (darn it!).
