There is really nothing bad about it. The basic design served several nations quite well for over 50 years. For a bolt action military weapon, it has really never been surpassed.

Even the 03 Springfield is merely an Americanized version.

Notable good points are robust action. Foolproof bolt assembly, cock on opening, and failsafe firing pin (just to name a few).

Cruelty was a rare thing in the war. Fireside folks who talk about war and read about it, they figure it's cruel more often than not, but it simply isn't so... You kill in war to survive, and not because of any desire to kill.
Many men avoid battle not from cowardice but from fear of cowardice, fear that when the moment of truth comes they will not have the courage to face up to it. L'Amour

How much do you think one would run now-a-days?

Anywhere from $50. to over $1300ish (What I recently sold one for on GB).

Each one has to be individualy evaluated as to value. Dozens of factors come into play. Your question has no cut and dried answer.

the only bad things i can think of is having to shoot corrosive ammo in one and the time consumming clean up , and also the ones that were made in the concentration camps that could have been made to blow up but most of those have probly done thier thing long aga on the battlefeild although a few may have made it out and didn get a german soldier

the thing that scares me is that we could be living in someone else's own reality

For onething, if the inmates at ANY concentration camp had actually produced a weapon intended to blow up in the shooters face, the guards would have executed several hundred of the prisoners for every rifle that came out that way! In other words, there is NO WAY that urban legend is true. The people in those camps were too busty just trying to stay alive to consider doing that. It would be nigh well onto impossible to document ant such occurrence!

Another thing...the K98 action was designed in 1898, so it has been serving with distinction in one iteration or the other for well over 100 years. There is just not much to complain about as far as the quality and durability of these guns go. The determinants mentioned have bearing, and I would read up some befor I paid much for one at this point!

    "History is written by winners"(Patton)

They are probably the most rugged rifle ever made.
