Newbie needing shot gun appraisal

My father has a Browning 20 gauge shotgun made in the early 1960's. (I don't have exact date off hand) It uses both 2 3/4" and 3" shells. My dad inhertied from his dad when he pased away, neither he nor I are gun people so I was wondering if someone could give me a rough estimate of the shot gun's worth. It would be much appreciated.

    Value is quite regional I'm sorry to say. Features and condition are also VERY important.

    Hereabouts the Sweet 16 is queen. 12's are at the bottom of the heap and 20's in the middle. If your gun were to be in 90%+ condition with a vented rib and nice wood it might well bring upwards of $800.00. A few nicks and scratches could easily knock off $200.00. (These are retail estimates.)

    I'm located in southern NY. Go into the northern zone (rifle country) and the 20 won't be as appreciated. Go to Jersey and neither the 16 or 20 will do all that well... Game laws and such.

    You've recieved some Good Information already...My suggestion to You is contact Bobski...He should be along shortly...He and 101AIRBORNE are our resident Shotgunners...Ski is on the East Coast and 101 on the West....Both are Masters of the Trade and will tell You as it is....Best.....

    Pls ignore the good Captain, I am afraid he seen a little
    too much sun. It would help if you could advise us what design
    Browning you have-such as a semi auto or a Superposed. This
    would be a starting point.

    With your limited info,I think you have a superposed over/under
    The semi auto A-5 in 20 only took 2 3/4 shells ,enless its the magnum model
    The superposed used both 2 3/4 and 3
    If I am right and unknown blueing ware and wood
    Around here 1500-2200

    I guess the first three letters of ASSume probably apply to my answer. I sometimes forget that we all don't speak "shotgun" and the lack of any real description led me to the common A-5.

    I'm still betting that I'm correct as this is the most likely gun to own among the Browning line. Obviously a superposed will be a different story with a different outcome.

    So we're back to the "more info" corner. A detailed repost would be nice.
