Beretta .22 for the glove box?

Looked at a beretta 'Bobcat'(i think it was) and it looked to be just the righ size for what I need right now.
I know,it's only a .22,but it fulfills the first rule of a gunfight.
Anybody own or shot one?reliabiltiy is the key,I ain'lt gonna be shootin' the eyes outa bulls with this one.
It was 199.00...and ammo is a buck a box,+-. :)

    The Beretta is an excellent gun , we sell a ton of them. Although if your looking for something small why not the Keltec line in either .9mm, 380 or 32 auto. They are the same size and you get more fire power.

    God gave us all a gift. Have you found yours yet ?

    I think the BOBCAT is fine....! If You're happy with it, and it fits your currant Need...? Then go for it! .22 works just fine at 24 inches and you won't lose Your Night Vision and Blow Your Eardrums out to boot.....I wish You well....

    I've been scouting for a used one.

    I only found out my 3032 (Tomcat) is best suited for 20 shots between cleaning; i.e., not a target gun, because it has no manual ejector, but rather uses blow-back to blow the cartridge out of the chamber, and a few dozen shots can be sufficient to foul the breech to a point at which the firearm will short-cycle, causing the slide to close early before the next round is chambered.

    I DO NOT know if this is a situation one would experience in .22LR, however.

    I remember PMC Zappers had a nice kick out of my Browning, and I have a few boxes (100 count) of CCI Mini-mags ($3.50, cheaperthandirt).

    A few shots of either will be more than annoying.

    I had no idea how they worked until a gunsmith found out I have four magazines for mine! [:D] Obviously, I am taking it out and shooting the pi$$ out of it. As explained to this layman, the combustion of the powder propels the bullet forward, and the slide back. The case slips backward too, since the slide is not there stopping it. The new round pushing up from the mag kicks the spent case up (I think) but the slide is only open long enough to kick out the one case. As the slide is slamming home, it knocks the next round into the chamber.

    Sounds like very split-second timing to me. Thats why a little fouling causes failure-to-feed, because a case slow in exiting takes away from the fractions of a second the new case has to get the heck where you want it - in the chamber.

    Thanks. I'm still in the dark as to exactly how it works. I got my info from Beretta USA's only authorized repair agent other than themselves, Bolsa Guns, here in California. I've been shooting Foicchi 60 gr SJHP, Silvertips, and some S&B ball ammo. When it gets back from Beretta (the tip-up doesn't shut completely, but rather stays a fraction of a millimeter open) I'll try the Cor-Bon.

    Just curious. I see no extractor in the handgun. What assists the ejection?

    I can't tell if you're being facetious or not but...
    'blowback is the type of slide operation,not ejection.You have a bad or broken extractor sounds like to me.

    I 've had several of the little berettas , great little guns but you do need to keep the chamber clean , I've found that they need to be cleaned at least every 40-50 rounds , which is no big deal ,. right now i own a Taurus PT-22 which is almost the same gun just made by Taurus , and its double action only which is ok for what i use it for , I also have a Keltec in 32acp which is a very small gun for the cal. any on these should be fine for what you want and all are about the same money

    Throckmorton: both Beretta and the Taurus pt-22 , DO NOT have extractors , they work just like jsergovic says

    As already noted, the Berettas with the tip-up barrels don't have extractors. They do have an "ejector"--it is not the next round alone which is responsible for "kicking out" the spent case, as one might infer from Jsergovic's explanation.

    Jsergovic, try some "hotter"--and maybe cleaner--ammo (I'd suggest CorBon's .32).

    Mine (in .22LR) will shoot all day long; I only use CCI Stingers. I did have to do some "de-burring" when I first got it to get that reliability though. I also have the 950BS in .22Short and have not experienced any problems--it "lacks" the extractor too because it has the same tip-up barrel design.

    And regarding Throckmorton's original question about a "glove box" gun: A .22 may not be the best idea for a "car gun" since it won't ususally be effective through a car door or tempered glass window (it will break the window, but energy will be greatly reduced afterward).

    A 22LR is still better than nothing and the lack of penetration on "hard targets" could actually be considered a benefit in some crowded traffic situation where you were the target of someone's road rage.

    Shouldn't he load it up with Stingers. A Bobcat can handle that, right?
