Swift Scopes???
Got to get a new scope to go on a new Winchester 70 30/06. Had a friend recommend that I check out the "swifts". Anybody have any input on these/comparison to other name-brands? Probably looking for 3-12x range, 40mm. Thanks!!

I have one on a Ruger #1 in .223. The scope is a 8-32 x 50 and has performed quite well. Obviously, its ability to withstand recoil is not an issue here.

I had one on a Ruger Redhawk.Never had a problem with it. I would buy one again. 0 -
We sell the Swift line and they are a great scope for the price. Swift also hasa lifetime over the counter replacemnet policy which no one else offers. We have sold them three years and never had one returned. Excellent quality and clearity. One drawback is that they are not made in this country though.

I had one on a Ruger 77 in 300 Win Mag, it wouldn't shoot anything under a 6" group at 100 yds. I replaced it with a Simmons 3x10x44 and now it shoots 1 1/4" groups all day long.

In my opinion they are lousy. I used one and under normal light it was fine but I watched a buck with it's head in the brush for 35 minutes in the middle of the afternoon and could not see the rack (I could see the rack with my naked eye but not the scope). The body was in the open and after getting tired of waiting I shot a buck I would have let go if I could have seen the rack better. They have a great guarantee but are not great quality. I prefer the Nikon Monarch over the swift but that incident made me go overboard and now I use a Swarovski and a Schmidt & Bender.
Optics are more important than the rifle and you get what you pay for.

I have two Swift scopes, one on a Ruger 223 model 77 and the other on a 22 mag Marlin. I have had both of them for over five years and I am really happy with them. They allow plenty of light, have a wide field of view and have excellent eye relief. One is a 4-12x40 Wide angle and the other is a 3-9x40 wide angle. Great scopes for the money!

TRAVIS , I OWN A 4-12 x 50MM AND IT GATHERS AS MUCH OR MORE LIGHT THAN MY VARI-X III LEUPOLD . THE SWIFTS THAT ARE HUNTING RIFLE SCOPES ARE GREAT WITH LIGHT TRANSMISSION . THE TARGET SCOPES ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED IN LOW LIGHT . I DISAGREE WHEN YOU SAY THEY ARE LOUSEY, HOWEVER I AGREE THAT, A RIFLE IS NO BETTER THAN YOUR SCOPE AND DON'T FORGET GOOD MOUNTS ARE WORTH INVESTING IN . I'VE HAD COUNTLESS REPEAT CUSTOMERS WITH SWIFT SCOPES .

Thinman, not trying to upset anyone, I was just stating my opinion and my expierience with the swift scope.[:(]
I have looked through a vari-x 3 and it was much better than the swift I used. Admittedly it cost about 3 times as much. I have to ask if you used the same spec scope (4-12x50) when you compared the 2?
I prefer the Zeiss conquest 3-9x40 for the money. It is the only mid range scope I have looked through that is close to my high end scopes. Any power over that in the conquest line starts getting spendy.
I feel scopes are like rifles in that what one person likes another will dislike. And you are right about the mounts. My Talleys are expensive but it made no sense to skip quality after going overboard on scopes.[:)]
