Rifle Pedigree?
A friend of mine has an old piece he picked up at auction and would like to know it's value.It is in very good condition,and he paid only about 80.00 bucks so i figure he didn't get hurt.It's a bolt action in 30-06.only markings are on barrel reads as follows:"U.S. Model of 1917 Remington. serial#262341.Any info would be greatly appreciated[:)]

Could it be a P-17 Enfield manufactured by Remington, for England during the Lend-Lease program of WW I? Logging on to any of the firearms auction or related sites...i.e. GunBroker,among others, etc will give you a photo to compare.(I didn't know I wasn't supposed to mention the other guys)
P.S. It's worth a little more than $80. I dug around and saw them for sale from $295 to $599.0 -
The British version, the P14, was manufactured in .303; the Brits never used .30-06.
Your friend has a US Model 1917 Enfield rifle, manufactured for the US military in 1917 & 1918. Value depends upon exact condition, originality of all pieces, & alterations; we'd need to see photos to estimate better. However, it's certainly worth more than he paid.

If it is in origional condition it could be worth a bit. If it has been altered it is a shooter only or if someone wants to use it as the basis of building another rifle. The P14/17 action is populsr for that.
