reloading 223, using Hornady 50 grain V-max

I am new to reloading for the 223 and would like some opinions of a powder to use that will meter freely thru my Dillon powder measure.

  You need to get yourself at least one really good reloading manual and then a list of powder descriptions. More manuals are better so that you can use them as check references against each other. They don't have to be brand new although it helps. Go to your used bookstore or a gunshow that has a bookseller and buy some used ones.
  
  The powders that are going to meter most easily will be the Ball powders. They'll meter like water as the saying goes. But the drawback to Ball powders is that they, for the most part, are more sensitive to changes in temperature. Ball powders get less active when the temperature drops and then you can get pressure spikes when it get hot. So, you have to be careful to test your loads in the temperature that you want to shoot in. The V V powders are less sensitive as are the Reloader and Ramshot. The Hodgdon line has two kinds, Extreme and the original formulas. The Extreme powders are less sensitive. Accurate Arms has two separate lines, also. They all have websites for you to look into.

  This is just what I use... When loading alot for hunting or for my AR; I use 26gr of 748. That is with a dillion... If I am using a single stage press and want target ammo I run 27.25gr of varget. The later load is for my custom 700vls 223.
  
  Hope this helps. But you need to buy some manuals and always start at least 10% lower than max.

  I've had very good luck with WW748 and it drops out of most measures just fine.Good luck with your shooting,Bob.
