Browning chrome lined barrels?
I have herd browning now has chrome lined barrels due to short barrel life on the WSM's and WSSM's. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so when did they start doing this? I have a A-bolt 7mmWSM that I purchased about a year ago and was wondering if I had the chrome lined barrel or not.
Also is there really a problem with barrel life on the 270wsm, 7mmwsm, and 300wsm? I have herd guys say they had "serious throat erosion after only 600 rounds" on the 7mm wsm.

Ben if you take a close look at the barrel crown you should see the liner on the very edge of the bore if you have one. The rest I am not sure of. The erosion problem I had heard was beacuse of super hot reloads, However this was with the .223 wsm and .243 wsm.

there are always rumors like that going around . i dont belive most of them . try www.shortmags.org they have plenty of info on all of that stuff , also look around on www.browning.com to see if they have any recalls . i dont belive most of the stuff i hear like "exploding barrels" and stuff like that . i have a .270 wsm . havent shot it yet though . what model A-bolt do you have ? my .270 short fat is a tikka t3 light

All you have to do is start a search on the web and all of your questions would be answered.
Winchester and Browning delayed the entry of the new .223 WSSM and the .243 WSSM into the market last year so that they could have the barrels chrome lined. Bunches of AR-15 barrels are chrome lined also. Some shotgun barrels are chrome lined. What's the big deal? I know folks that have 1200 to 1500 rounds through their 223 and 243 WSSM's and they are still shooting just fine. The idea is the same as that of taking care of any good varmint rifle; don't shoot it hot and keep it relatively clean. Barrels like these are going to get shot out faster than standard hunting rifle barrels anyway since a lot of the use will be in the varmint fields. The 243 WSSM will double as a deer rifle as well. Barrels get used and they get replaced. Look at the number of custom, aftermarket barrel makers that stay in business.
Your 7mm WSM does not have a chrome lined barrel.
Most of these people that are whining and sniveling about barrel life in the WSSM's don't even have one, won't buy one, haven't shot one and are more than likely just passing on more hearsay. It's rumor mongering because they have nothing better to do than stir the pot. If one of them really owns a WSM and has "serious throat erosion" then he has created that problem himself because it isn't the fault of the cartridge design.

I have to agree with nononsense whole heartedly. Those who condemn calibers such as the 220 swift and the RUM's,..are simply spewing garbage. I have worked with the RUM's and the swift and have yet to see the majical forces associated with "over bore" calibers come and carry my rifling away to never never land. Keep them clean and don't shoot them hot.
The chrome lining was originally developed for full automatic rifles. The extreme heat and rate of fire can easily burn out most of the rifling in only 1 day,..but the hardness of the chrome lining allows them considerably more service life. I think browning knows how harsh the WSSM's are going to be on the bore due to the amount of fire being thrown at the rifling in such rigs as the 223WSSM, and they have made a pre-emptive move to assure their market share. As their rifles don't lose accuracy as quickly while in the hands of those who refuse to follow a proper barrel care regimen, they will be heralded as "great rifles" , hence assuring future sales by word of mouth advertising.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
