Where can I locate the disassembly instructions? Can anyone assist in pointing to a source? Thanks.

The serial number you gave us, doesn't agree with the data in "Flayderman's Guide".

He notes that the Model 1884 "Trapdoor" Rifles & Carbines are generally in the 300,000 to 500,000, serial number range.

Dixie catalog shows year 1877 for 76,725 to 100,394.
1884 starts 263,876.

Lots of these guns were arsenal refitted to 1884 standards after being sent in for repair (or just retrofitting for that matter). Just because it doesn't jibe with the numbers does not AUTOMATICALLY mean that it not correct. Does it have the Buffington type rear sight? Did you mean the lockplate and not the reciever?
