Has anyone ever tried Blue Wonder Gun Blue, or Perma Bluer Liquid Gun Blue Kit? I have an old Stevens rifle that I would like to try and home cold blue.

    I am a big fan of the Blue Wonder bluing.Search this and the general discussion forum for the reviews.The trick for me on getting a good finish with it is to clean the metal with the Blue Wonder cleaner and a good hair dryer to get the meal hot.

    I've used those before and had good results.The most important step is preporation before you apply the bluing.Make sure the parts you're doing are clean from oil,solvent,etc and it works ok.Just my 2 cents,Bob.

    Have used both of these products and of the two Blue Wonder does a much better job. However, you have to thoroughly clean the metal (regardless of the product used). And, with Blue Wonder DON'T get the metal HOT ... follow the directions and keep the metal only warm to the touch.

    Myself the best results w/ BW have been obtained by cleaning with their cleaner, then warming the barrel and cleaning it again, repeating the process until a clean cloth drawn across the warm surface does not pick up anymore crud.

    I've meant to try Blue Wonder, but have had terrific results with Birchwood Casey Perma-Blue. Follow the directions to the letter-esp. concerning cleaning- and you'll be pleased with the results.

    Havent tried Blue Wonder as yet. I have great success with Brownells
    "Oxpho-Blue Creme Paste" though. Good finish and long lasting blue.

    Brownells Oxpho Blue liquid, clean/degrease/beadblast and then warm in a just to a boil water bath, truely excellent results. One pint bottle is enough to do 4 or 5 entire bolt action rifle barrel actions and their trigger guards. Gives a great matte black finish. Doesn't do polish blue so well.

    We use the 'oxy blue?' from brownells , never had real good results with any-thing else , and remember , these are really for 'touch ups',
    trying to blue an entire gun with 'cold' blue is a real test of skill.

    Blue Wonder is not a blue-just a paint job. It is not an oxizider.
    Brownell's Oxpho Blue is the only touch up blue that has worked for me. No hair dryer required. User friendly. If I can believe Brownell's
    salesman, Blue Wonder will not be in the next catalog. 101
