Military Ammo Expert Please/ Next ?

I would like to identify some ammo. The battle pack is marked 200 cartridges cal. 5.56mm short range lead free. The marking looks like a double circle with a capital H P in the center. The stamp on the case has a HP 5.56 .223. It looks to have a black plastic projectile. Can you tell me what it is and what it was intended for. Thank you.

    without seeing it , it sounds like Hirtenberger short range practice ammo, made in europe about 10-12 years ago!!!! i had some cases of it and it is very shortrange ammo, approx 100 yards or less!!!

    I have some and was told it's IMI (Israeli) and that they use it for anti-terrorist house fighting due to the low weight and zip penetration. It does cycle in my AR18 and AR15, but I tend to think it's training ammo also.

    My stuff has a blunt black plastic ojive over a cupro-nickel body.

    I'm not familiar with this particular loading, but I believe hachett hits the X-ring; the package markings and headstamp are pure Hirtenberg and the plastic projectile is very common on short range practice ammo in Europe, where space for firing ranges is often at a premium. You can pull a slug to dissect it - some have a light metal core, some are pure plastic. The latter are *real* short range (typically indoor) practice rounds, something on the order of 25 yards, as I recall and will be seen across a broad spectrum of cartridges and makers.

    Greg, this stuff is designed to punch paper at short ranges . . . if the projo has the light metal core, it might penetrate a denser medium, but my gut feeling (nothing else) is that it would be more likely to p!ss off an intruder than stop him. ?? Why not a shotgun inside? Unlikely to have over-penetration and a proven option.
