OK. I have checked out the sticky but have a couple of other questions. Maybe they were addressed there & I just missed them. I, a non-FFL holder wants to ship a rifle to a FFL in another state. I understand that I can do this using the USPS. Yes, no markings about what's in the box but what do I do when the clerk asks about dangerous & etc contents? Do I say it's a rifle? How do they know I'm sending it to a FFL holder?

    Hderv, You have been given bad information about carrier regulations concerning shipping of a firearm by an unlicensed individual. USPS regulations permit an unlicensed individual to ship long guns but NOT handguns. The postal regulation covering this has been cited on this forum many times but I don't recall what it is. An unlicensed individual must ship a handgun via a common carrier. Both UPS and Fed Ex will handle shipment of a handgun by an unlicensed individual but will require it go by next day air. This is quite expensive, $30 or more in most instances. Common carriers have some restrictions on where a person may take a firearm for shipment. The agents that handle package pickup for the carriers are not permitted to receive firearms. The problem is in getting firearms shipped by common carriers is that their clerks that receive the packages are often unaware of the federal law and company regulations. N. Myers may respond to this message. He is quite knowledgable about shipping regulations and you can depend on what he says. Unfortunatelly, many that respond to questions such as yours on this forum are not expert and only contribute to the reputation of the gun forums as being "The Mother of Misinformation".

    USPS firearms shipping regulations can be found in USPS Publication 52, which can be downloaded from their website.

    Since you don't like my suggestion of declaring a handgun as "firearm for repair", you may want to consider asking a local FFL dealer to ship it for you; HE can legally ship it by USPS for a much lower cost than you will pay a common carrier. Of course, he will want payment of $20-60 for that service, & you, not the buyer, will have to pay that cost. In any case, be sure to state the method of shipping in your auction description, as many buyers assume that a seller has an FFL & can ship (cheaply) by USPS.

    You should read the FOR SELLERS guide on the Gunbroker auction site; it has a lot of good information on selling & shipping firearms.
