Here is a excellent site, which shows the difference in the different Vetterli models.

The ammo is going to present a problem. The above site has a message board, where the members discuss procuring/ reworking ammo for the Vetterli so it can be shot.

Ammo is not available commercially as this rifle is 10.4X38 rimfire (41 cal. RF). If you want to shoot it, the rifle bolt will have to be converted to centerfire and brass made from .348 Winchester brass. Brass is also available from Buffalo Arms. Info on the CF conversion is available at the aforementioned site. If you will check it out, you will find there are several models: M69, M69/71, M71, M78, M81. The M78 and M81 will have that designation stamped on the left side of the receiver, along with the manufacturer. From your serial number, it appears that the rifle is a M69/71 and was made in 1875.
