Casing stuck in chamber
I have a problem with an AK-47 (5.56 version)made by Hesse Arms. As I understand they are not the best made, anyways while I was firing it I had a double feed, so I simply ejected the round and let the next one make it into the chamber, it would only go in so far, after unloading the rifle I took a closer look and I notice that the neck of the casing was still inside chamber where it seats before being fired. I am using American Federal ammunition, fairly new, is it the rifle, or ammuntion, and what can I do to get it out, I have tried several things trying to pull it out but no luck. Any help will be appreciated.

what you need is a broken case remover
they are pretty cheap when compaired to the cost of taking it to a gunsmith
go to cdnninvestments.com and look for one the size of the round that has stuck

Don't own an AK and never messed with one of them. However, I think you can remove the receiver spring housing and bolt to expose the breech (chamber). If so, get an oversize bristle bore brush (.45 caliber will work) and force it into the chamber from the breech, insuring you go into the chamber neck. Using a wooden or brass rod (NOT metal) inserted from the muzzle, tap the brush back out of the chamber. The portion of the case should come out with the brush. The brush will be damaged and not fit for further use, but they are cheap.
A plug stuffed into the bore just in front of the chamber neck and some penetrating oil left to soak a bit will also aid in the extraction. Be sure to remove the plug before inserting the brush and rod.

Use a broken shell extractor. It engages the bolt like a cartridge head and will reach up and hook the broken case by the mouth and pull it out.
You should be able to get one for your caliber from most any place that sells a variety of firearm accessories. I think I got my 7.62 broken shell extractor right here on the GB auction.

Thanks for the info, I will get that get that shell extractor asap, it is not the first time it has done this, would anyone know why it is doing for future reference. 0 -
I would say check your bore for scuffs or burrs that might be causing your brass to hang up.
Something else you can try is a pachmayr snap-capp. They have a brown enamel coating so if your round is hanging up that should giv you an idea of whats happening. Otherwise just try some different ammo.GOOD LUCK.[:D]

You've been given a lot of good advice and probably have things solved by now. I had a broken shell extractor for my AK's for years before I needed it. Got a broken case (7.62) in a 'new' piece, the $3.00 tool I pulled it out in five minutes. Tool marks in the chamber were the culprit. (checking for them with a snap cap is something I did not think of...) I smoothed the chamber with polishing compound, then shot about 500 steel cases. Never had another brass case hang up.....
Looking back, I did not shoot brass cases in any of my AK's or SKS's until recently. Maybe others had a rough chamber that the steel case would not grip on.....and wore them down....... go figure.

While you are at it, get a field headspace guage and make sure that the bolt doesn't close on it. On a gun made by Hesse, I wouldn't be the least bit supprised that something bigger is at fault here. High quality American made cases don't seperate for no good reason.

The cleaning brush is an old gunsmith trick. It works. Sometimes the broken case extracter doesn't. If you can do it use your cleaning rod from the breech end, push the oversize brush past the broken case, then PULL hard. It should come out. I suspect a rough chamber is the problem as others have said. Polish it or shoot steel cases for awhile.[:)]
