NEF Pardner question

I have recently purchased a nef used from cabelas, the man told me the stock wasn't walnut but some cheap kind of wood, it looks alot like walnut but i guess it isn't, what is it made of and is it durable enough?

    More than likely it is white or yellow birch. Have never seen one fail yet.

    I have replaced a few of the striker and lifter assemblies but not enough to be alarmed by. As with all single shot, break open firearms of this type, they are a pain in the butt to work on if you do not have the correct tools, especially slave pins.

    are the nef pardner 12 ga. pretty rugged guns? are they worth their money in your opinion?

    I have an NEF single shot 10 ga. solid construction, simple operation, good price and American made...what else could you ask for?

    A very good value,IMHO.
    Not dry firing it is a good way to not be buying firing pins.use a snap cap if you want to dry fire it.
    Now,get yourself a Trius onestep trap and go forth and have a ball!!

    I have 4 different calibers and gauges from NEF they are all well made and great shooters.I would not hesitate to buy another one.

    I think these are great guns for the price. I have sold many of the shotguns and rifles and recently the new Huntsman muzzleloaders. The accuracy is better than you would think and the availablity of optional barrels is a plus. For the family with young shooters coming up these guns offer a lot of options with little capital outlay. My only complaint is that there is not a safety that can be engaged when letting the hammer down; especially for those with weak hands or the inexperienced operator.

    a friend also told me that you cannot shoot steel shot unless you have a special barrel, i didn't believe him because i thought that was for only old guns, is this also true?
