I am looking at mountain deer hunting in Washington State. Comments are welcome. Best, Robert

Be careful what you wish for the lighter the rifle the harder the recoil. The harder the recoil the longer/harder to get back on aim for follow up shot"IS THIS WHY YOU WISH FOR AUTO" the lighter the rifle the harder it is to hold steady. 0 -
My model F featherweight model 99 Savage weighs about 8lbs scoped and loaded, I would guess. I picked it for an easy carry, fast follow up shots and that it is a true american classic. The Winchester model 88 would be about the same, both of these are lever guns. The Remington 7400 autos that I have had limited experience with felt a bit heavier, by a pound or so. I'd guess closer to 9lbs unloaded. You should be able to get the weight of the current production Rems and Brownings off their websites. 0 -
Do you just have to have a semi-auto? Why not a bolt action. I have a Remington 742 and its not heavy around 7 or 8 pounds and its a 30-06 but its no where near as accurate as my bolt guns just something to remeber. If you have to have a semi I'd look at Browning then Remington.

Lightest I would say is the winchester model 100
I like the older browning semi-auto
But I would get a mountain rifle-BOLT under 6LBS

Thank you for your comments, but I am looking for an auto. I know the merits of the bolt and lever actions. The M 1 Guarand is only 9 lbs and no one says this auto[:D] is not accurate. I am just interested in other options. There must be some new auto on the market? Heckler&Koch? Best, Robert

RSLINTII,
if you dont mind going with old faithful, you could find a nice used HK-G3 it weighs about 9.7lbs and can be very accurate.
Or if you are a millionaire you could buy a PSG1 for about $10,000.[;)] Just kidding that one would be about 14.5lbs. However if you dont mind the weight, it is very accurate and you can pick up the civilian model MSG90 for about half the price.

Just found the new Browning BAR Lightweight, Total Weight: 7lb 2oz. Do not think it can be beat! I have a HK 91 which is great for sit down, but a little heavy for mountain hiking. Best, Robert[;)]

Benelli's R1 in 30.06 at 7.25 lbs is also a good contender. They are schedualed for .308 barrels in the near future. Best, Robert[:D]

A second motion for the Winchester 100, only in carbine length! My personal favorite...accurate and totable! 0 -
Look into the Armalite AR10 SOF, 7.6 lbs empty. My new favorite. 0 -
In a bolt... I would say the lightest would be a Tikka T3 Lite at just barely over 6 lbs.......
The dog will prove you wrong everytime !0
