Shipping With UPS
7/8/04 - I have run into a problem shipping with UPS. According to their written policy (Section 435) no one can ship a firearm except by and between businesses, dealers, etc, etc. Private citizens are barred from shipping EVEN TO A FFL licensee. Anyway that's according to UPS employees in Tampa, FL taking scheduled pickup information and when you declare your shipping a firearm. What are others doing? I'm trying to ship a sold pistol on GunBroker to it's new owner. HELP!

Stop wasting your time with the imbeciles at UPS. Ship it by FedEX. the folks their are much easier to deal with.
Go up to the counter, tell them your shipping a handgun. Show them a copy of the FFL's license your shipping to. "IF THEY ASK TO SEE IT".
They will want you to ship it "Priority Overnight", per THEIR regulations.

Just tell them you are shipping the gun for repair services. That is allowed by ups.

Wrong! You can ship a handgun or longgun to a holder of a FFL license, even though you don't have a FFL license.0 -

dont mess with ups they dont know what they are doing go tofed-ex and the reciever is the only one that has to have a ffl license but you might have to have a copy of thier license 0 -
I don't see much difference between UPS & FEDEX. Both have similar restrictions on shipping firearms, both have a small number of incompetent employees, both make you ship handguns Next Day Air to indemnify themselves against the thieves who they have hired, & both charge similar outrageous rates for handguns. My experience is that UPS tends to damage guns more often, but FEDEX seems to misroute packages more often. Also, UPS management has a worse attitude.
The rules for shipping by either carrier are listed on their websites & are called "tariffs". Print the rules for shipping firearms, & take them with you when you take your firearm to their Customer Service Counter. No, you cannot ship from a packaging store.
Both permit individuals to ship firearms for repair or customizing, but not for sale. So, always declare your firearm as "firearm for repair".

My UPS counter in Bartlett, Tennessee will accept either an 01 or 03 FFL from the shipper (seller) and really didn't care to whom it was being shipped. Of course, I had the receipent's FFL with me just in case.

I recently shipped and received back my Contender from T/C for repairs. Mailboxes etc. refused to accept the package for UPS shipment and I had Fedex pick it up direct. It was then shipped back by Fedex. No problems either way. No FFL is required to ship or receive it for factory repairs per the California Dept. of Justice.
....I never met a gun I didn't like!0
