Single Action Revolvers
Im going to be buying 2 new single action "peacemaker" style revolvers. Right now Im looking at the EMF Hartford models becuase i like the styling, finishes, an price. Are these good guns and are there any problems with them? If so, what is a better choice? Thanks!

I am looking to get a single action revolver. Does anyone have any suggestions on Rugers or Berettas? Or any other brands for that matter. Probably in 45 Colt. 0 -
Back years ago when I was still in the business, we were selling "Mitchell" Single Action Revolvers. Believe this was the name of the gentlemen who owned EMF. I also believe that these were the same Italian revolvers that EMF sold, only sold under the "Mitchell" name.
To make a long story short. A customer of ours bought (2) of the "Mitchell's" in .44 Mag. He brought them back within a month, ( out of time,etc. ) They couldn't take the pounding of the .44 Mag.
My 2 Cents, go with a Ruger if you intend to do a lot of shooting, specially of HOT loads.

Are you able to handle them and test the actions,and check the fit and finish,etc?
The clones are tack hammers compared to the sledge hammer rugers,but I sure like the feel and heft of 'em better.
If I may,my Pards at the cowboy BB can give some first hand answers on the current Hartfords.One of 'em owns the company.
I sure like the ones sold by Cimmaron Firearms,but the EMF's may be every bit as good depending on who made 'em.

FYI, the Colts and clones are for standard (read Low)pressure loads compared to what a Ruger can handle.

The owner of EMF is Boyd Davis, AKA "U.S. Grant". I dont know exactly how many years he has had the company, but its been a while.
I have met him several times, and own 3 guns from EMF. I have had not problems with the guns. The guns are Italian made and of good quality in my opinion.

The creation of Cowboy Action Shooting has caused a revelation in the manufacturing of repro western firearms. Probably not since the 1880's has there been this many manufactures of single action handguns. That has been responsible for the vast improvement of the quality of these repros by ALL past and present makers - American and imported. Price is still and indicator of quality, but, due to the popularity, what might have been high quality 20 years ago is barely adequate now. The manufacturers have not ignored that. [;)]
