$200 -$400 scopes?

I'd like opinions on scopes in the $200 - $400 range. 6x24x42 to go on an AR15 chambered in 223 for P dog hunting. What do the experts recommend?

    There are a bunch of decent scopes out there, aimed at just about anything you can imagine to shoot. I'm not sure if an AR15 is the best rifle to use for Pdog hunting, but if that is all you have to choose from, go for it. With in mind, a good 3X12X40mm scope would fit that type of hunting very well.
    Just to name a couple of brands for reference....Redfield, Weaver, Bushnell, Leupold, and Simmons all make medium to cheap scopes that will serve you very well, and if you can;t find one that you like, ask your local gunsmith for a recomdation. He should steer you in the right direction!

    Pyro, an AR is perfect for P-dogging I use my Bushmaster all the time. As far as scopes go I prefer Burris, they are Made in the USA, they have a lifetime warranty, and crystal clear optics. If you don't find a Burris that you like check out Nikon. For my varminting I use either a Cooper 22-250 with a Nikon 4-12x40 or I use my Bushy with a Burris 3-9x40. Right now Burris has a great deal with a 3-9x40 you get a free spotting scope. You get both for about $250. Email me if you can't find that deal.

    All my scoped rifles carry Simmons Aetec scopes. They have NEVER let me down from 22lr to 340 Weatherby .

    I just put a Weaver V-24 8x24x42 on my ar-15 24"ss bull barrel. Very nice scope. bought it for $330.

    You can get a NIKON 6.5-20x44 for $392.00 or a BUSHNELL ELITE 4200 6x24 with mil-dot reticle for $375.00......Beat either one of them for the money and you will have done something!!! GHD

    I love my .223 Ar, but this is not a 500yd cartridge. Therefore I don't put scopes on my Ar that are large, heavy, bulky and hard to hold still at max mag. I'd be looking a for a scope for a short action bolt in the 14 or 16 mag max range. Since much dog town damage is done in fair weather many more scopes may be used, as long as they hold true. Simmon and BSA aren't bad choices at under $200. At over $200, Burris and Leupold compacts come to mind fastest.

    pyrohall,I'd have to say Im with zink on this one,I have used many different brands and types of scopes and I have really come to like the simmons optics.Although some would put them in the same group,their optics are far superior to tasco & BSA,even though they are in the same price range.

    I have a simmons ATV Gold 4.5-14 on my rem 700vs .308 and it holds 3/4" @ 110 no sweat. I picked it up for $125.00 bn w/heavy duty rings. Don't take my word for it,try one out yourself.It might save you $100-$1505

    I strongly recommend the Nikon for the money.

    I just bought a Nikon Buckmaster 3X9X50 for $180.00 on the big "E" auction. Iam mounting it on my Rem 700 VS .223 rifle for coyotes.
    It would also work well for P dogs. This scope retails for 299 bucks.

    I really like the burris fullfield II 3-9/40, ballistic plex, it would be great for praire dogs or any hunting for that matter. The balistic plex has marks below the crosshair for long range shooting. I would put it up against any VX-II, but leupold's and nikons are good also. Stay away for any of the other cheep junk (simmons, bushnell, tasco, etc.) Check them out there not to pricey eather.
