E.L.G.? H. Johnston?
Can anybody provide me with any information on the following two shotguns?
1. break action 20 guage shotgun with schnaebel forestock and octagon barrel. Piece has elaborate engraving and atop the breech there is the letter "E" over an "L" "G". next to these is the likeness of what appears to be a small crown....other than these markings the manucacturer is not obvious (to me anyway)
2. Second piece is an old side by side breechloading 12 guage with exposed hammers. Again, there is elaborate engraving with the name: "H. Johnston Pittsburgh PA" engraved on the buttstock....
Specifically, I'm interested in the manufacturer and age of these pieces but any info would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks
Bryan

Just a little information, I can help you with.
1), "E" "L" "G" is a common proofmark found on numerous Belgian made firearms.
2), "H. Johnson" was a manufacturer and retailer of firearms and sporting goods, ( Great Western Gun Works ). This was during the late 19th Century
