VA Concealed Carry - safety course?
I read the info on packing.org and sent in for a non-resident VA concealed carry application. Packing.org says that some jurisdictions require proof of training and/or fingerprints, while others (for training, the word used was "most") do not. Will I need either or both of these for my non-resident application?
If I do need fingerprints, that'll be simple enough to get done while I'm in my home town by the same cop who did it for my ND concealed permit. The training, though, I may not have a chance to do anything of the sort before I move to VA. What is there in the Williamsburg area that qualifies for this, if it's required for the non-resident permit?
Thanks!

I can only tell you what I did. I was an out of state resident for 9 months in Prince William County. I took the two day course. Had the County Sheriff Department verify and I was certified for CC.

btw...im 1 hour from you. odds are, youll need the course up there. have gun? will travel. call me and i'll come to you. local leos like to see my letter that accompanies the diploma. it shows that i train you on the gun you carry. ive had some app's get turned away from other courses, because the gun they trained on wasnt the gun or caliber they carry with. weird, but true. ive seen it all since ive started training. welcome to va..! its 98% today. be prepared for heat and bumper to bumper traffic.

bobski: I was in VA for a week in July '97. Not exactly the "dry heat" I'm enjoying here in Phoenix. I primarily carry a Springfield Champion. I wouldn't mind driving the hour, or you could come up, either way. This would most likely be in September by the time I get around to it.
I see you had some laws change, effective July 1. Looks like VA is getting even better of a place to own guns.0 -
Showed a DD214 from the Army + commendation for teaching in 7th Division Armorers School + Va drivers licence, + NJ Firearms permit+ $50 for five years. No fingerprints req'd. Residency can be short but I forget the minimum. My application went in on 2/27 and the licence was issued on 3/12.
HB 402 effective July first, provides that a permit application becomes a defacto permit if the court doesn't approve or deny the application within 45 days.
I suspect your permit will also be expedited if you include a copy of your ND concealed permit.0 -
since veterans are fingerprinted in the military, vets and actdu get preferential treatment, as v35 explains. we can meet half way. the closest public range that i know is over on mercury blvd in hampton near langley afb.. we'll just pop in , bang bang, and i will sign you off....if you can hit the broadside of a barn that is![:D] leos arent interested in tactical knowledge, they want to know YOU know safety. its an easy course. if you have any preknowledge, it goes fast. picture me teaching a woman with no idea of what a barrel or bullet is. those are the hard ones.

I'll bring my rifles, for sure. I'd like a guided tour of gun ranges in the area, if nothing else. See you in the fall, if I'm not immediately and completely swamped.0 -
Hey Bobski, next time you head out to the outdoor range on Marvin rd. let me know,I need an excuse to get out my guns and go shooting.
