heavy 44's
I'm fixin to load some 300 gr. jacketed .44 Mag bullets for my son to hunt with. I loaded some of these years ago, but I find that these Hornady XTP bullets have 2 cannelures. Is this extra cannelure hust to insure that you don't exceed maximum length for a revolver cylinder? Length doesn;t matter that much to me as they will be shot out of a Win. 44 Trapper. I'm going to load them below max. a little since it's a lever action, but I'm wondering if it will greatly increase the pressure depending on which cannelure I use, and which is the proper one, or does it even matter? My only comment would be that while you do not want the bullet touching the rifling origin, you DO want the bullet to be as close as possible to it without touching. Touching the rifling would drasically increase the pressures generated in a modern smokeless load. In this case the bullet will have a shorter distance to travel to the origin and it should aid the accuracy a little.
