Lost My Fire arm ID Card

Hello every one. Recently I moved to my new house next town (Same state (NJ). While moving I misplaced my Firearm ID Card. Now how do I go about getting a new ID? Reason I am asking is that my local police dep. advised me that the detective that takes care of this is on vacation and won't be back until 07/25. Well I bought a rifle and need to transfer it.

    Move to a state that doesn't require having an FOID card or a Star of David stitched on your clothes[;)]

    According to NJ State Law a NJ firearms identification card holder, must notify the authorities if their card is lost or stollen. Holders of NJ FID must apply for a duplicate within 30 days of such loss or theft at your local police dept. You will have to fill out the same forms which you filled out to get the firearms ID, pay for the new card, and finger printing. I recommend to retrace your steps and see if you can find your old card because you never know what might happen owning firearms without a firearms ID card. You cannot transfer any firearms without a firearms ID card or a firearms ID card that does not match your driver's license in the State of New Jersey. The back log of firearms ID cards is about 6 months to get a new one. Your local Police Dept. could take longer than that time to issue you a new card depending where you live.

    I believe you should be dealing with the New Jersey State police and not the locals. I would contact them to dtermine my next course of action.

    The police....I think you better get a lawyer and have him hold the items before they get sent to the crusher over there.

    Josey1 posted a similiar situation with his brother in the General Forum awhile ago in New York.

    Cops confiscate the arms, local policy is to destroy after 30 days. You get your new card in 6-7 months. No guns.

    Nothing in the legislative history suggests that Congress ever considered the impact of purely intrastate commerce, and there is no reason to assume that prohibiting local possession of machine guns would have the same national and commercial consequences as prohibiting the interstate and foreign traffic in firearms. We therefore cannot import these earlier legislative findings to give section 922(o) constitutional grounding.
