M44 Bayonet lug removal any suggestions?

As I understand it these are pressed on. I've heard one success story after removing the 2 pins, giving it a good whack with a big hammer. My gear puller is to cheesy and may damage the crown. Anyone else have success?

  Mine was real easy to take off. The O-shaped part that goes over the barrel moves with a spring under it (have to push down on it to unlock and fold the bayonet). Anyhow, if you push down on it like you were going to fold it up there should be only one screw to take out. Once you've removed it the thing just comes right off. Good Luck.

  Thanks DBV, I rewrote the title and beginning of the sentence to be more clear. My daughter is sporterizing this rifle and wants the lug off and a pseudo brake in it's place.

  Numrich also has a AK74 style brake that might cut the recoil a bit more
