38 colt vs 38special
I know that this sounds stupid, but what is the difference between 38 colt and 38 special? Will a pistol marked 38 special shoot 38 colt???

Hello Yes you can shoot 38 short colt and 38 long colt in a gun chambered for 38 special BUT do not try the other way around most pistols that are champered for 38 colt are old and even though the cartridge might chamber steel might not be strong enough to take 38 special. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -
I don't mean to muddy the water, as what Perry Shooter has told you is correct.
BUT, their is some obsolete ammo out there you might run across called "38 Colt New Police". This stuff is NOT interchangeable in a revolver with standard 38 Long Colt/38 Special, chamber dimensions.
It's Colt's version of the .38 Smith & Wesson. As they didn't want to chamber revolvers for the .38 S & W, the changed the name. It can be quite confusing if you run across some of the ammo, with this marking.

Yes the .38 Colt(s) and S&W Special use a bullet that is .357", while the .38 Colt New Police and S&W use a .361" bullet. NOT a good idea to get them switched! [;)]
