Just inherited old Excel .410 shotgun
Some background. The shotgun is a signle barrel/shot, break action shotgun with an exposed hammer.
It belonged to my Grandmom's Uncle, who gave it to her. This shotgun is over 37 years old. I believe that it is over 60 years old. My Grandfather only let me shoot 2-3/4 .410 loads in it when I was inthe 2nd grade and up.
The only markings on the outside are EXCEL on the left side of hte receiver. There is NO serial number or even a guage marking on the barrel. This leads me to beleive that it was manufactured prior to the requirement to put serial numbers on firearms.
If anyone knows about the EXCEL line of shotguns, I would appreciatre the historical information

My reference notes that Excel was a trade name used on shotguns sold by Montgomery Ward.
They were made by a number of manufacturers for Ward's. ( Iver Johnson & Crescent ).
More then likely your shotgun is over 60 years old.

Your best bet would be to post some QUALITY, close up pictures of the shotgun. Specifically of the receiver. Some of our members are very knowledgable. Perhaps they could identify the maker, through the photos.0
