model 70 .25wssm

has anyone had any experiences with this gun in this caliber. i am looking for another .25 cal gun and am wondering if this new cartridge has any problems?

    I think that the prices will come down some when Winchester and Browning get a bunch more in the supply pipeline. Until then it's probably a seller's market. That's why I bought my own reamer...

    You might want to check at Wal Mart. I don't know that they carry the 25 WSSM's but I do know that you can order one through the Sporting Goods Dept. for a better price than you can get from virtually anywhere. Mine still has the Super Shadow WSM's for $399.99 each with that racy looking stock that most people complain about before they handle.

    The "25WSM" would have made a lot more sense! The 25WSSM won't ever be a 25-06!!! GHD (Pastor at the church of GHD.25-06!) PS: It's destined to be about as hard to get rid of as the 223WSSM!!!!

    I HAVE THE ULTIMATE SHADOW IN STOCK AND I REALLY LIKE IT . THE WEIGHT 6 lbs. 8 oZ. & OVERALL LENGTH MAKE IT HANDLE BETTER THAN THE HEAVIER LONG ACTIONS .THIS IS A GREAT COMBINATION FOR A DEER RIFLE .

    I agree with GHD why not a 25WSM that could preform close to a 257wm, I am a big fan of the 25 calibers but have no desire for a 25wssm that shows no advantage over a 25-06. Hopefully Remington will come out with a 25-06ultra mag someday, they will get it right.

    A couple of you guys are missing the point that Thinman is trying to make. What he's saying is that the new Win 25 WSSM does everything that the 25/06 does but in a smaller and easier to handle package. I for one agree with Thinman that this package would make an awesome deer rifle. If you want more than that from a .25 caliber then go to the 257 Weatherby.

    Let's think about this for a minute. If you were FN/Belgium and owned Browning/Winchester Arms would you put money into a 25 WSM that could fit into any of the existing receivers in your line with appropriate mechanical/machining changes or...

    Would you put money into the 25 WSSM which would utilize the receiver that was specially designed to handle just the WSSM line of cartridges which up until now, numbered only two.

    Guess what? They opted to expand the line of cartridges that utilize the special receiver so that they could spread out the cost of R&D to 3 cartridges instead of just two. The chance of monetary success was improved by a substantial amount no matter if you personally like the cartridge or not. Bean counters like this stuff.

    It's named the Ferguson .257 Hot Tamale, which is made by necking down the 7mm STW obviously to .25 caliber.


    And for all of those doubting Thomases, the current 25 WSSM and a fairly new wildcat version necked up to 6.5 (6.5 Heaton) are distinguishing themselves in the field of 1,000 yard Benchrest.

    I just picked up a Win70 Super Shadow in 25WSSM from Gunbroker. Years ago I had a custom BR rifle in 25-06, Fajen stock, Mauser single-shot 98 action, 15X Unertl Varminter Scope in recoiless mounts, 2 oz. Canjar set trigger. The rifle weighed in at #15.75.

    My reloads were 59.0 grains of IMR4831 behind a Sierra 75 gr. HP. This rifle shot into 1/2" at 200 yards.

    Now my 25WSSM is certainly "not" in the same class. But, at #7.25 with a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14X42mm scope she's a Real Beaute!

    My gunsmith installed a custom muzzle brake last week. We shot it several times and were BOTH shocked and amazed. I never imagined duplicating my "old" 25-06 laods and having a rifle that kicks far less than a .243.

    Anyways, 3-shot groups at 100 yards are averaging under 1". Keep in mind, the "pencil" thin barrel was NOT designed for quick, successive shots on the varmint fields.

    But, rather, as a lightweight deer/antelope rifle. The SHORT throw on the bolt is certainly amazing as well. Kinda reminds me of my custom Ruger K77/17 I built three years ago.
