Polish Mauser Help?!
Does anyone know of a definitive source of info on the various Polish Mauser designs? I evidently have learned just enough to be dangerous and need something that has a good list of markings and subvariants beyond what I have already accumulated. A few of the other forums I have tried turned out some fairly suspect info., and I later learned that the guys telling me that I was wrong on some of the details were the ones that outbid me later! Somewhat less than ethical in my view, and REALLY not appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Here is a good link. I can also recommend John Walter's book "Rifles of the World", It has a brief section on Polish Mauser Rifles.

Just make sure you chamber the cartridges so that the bullet faces you... that's all you need to know about Polish guns.

There is no source for the Polish Mauser, per se. The Pole is a variant that was never fully documented by historians. Most were built and sold to other countries, mainly Spain during their civil war. Many Spanish mausers are found to be Polish in origin. While they were a fine example of a copy of the Model '98 they are not considered to be one of the most valuable versions. The ones that were used by Poland in WWII were used hard and were catured by the Germans and Russians, so they can be found with markings from either or both. Hope this helps. [:)]

Mauser Military Rifles of the World has 5 pages including lots of photos on the Polish Mauser.
It is a great book that would be good for you to own. If you don't want to spend the $50, I can photocopy those pages and mail them to you.0 -
