BSA Single XII

I'm hoping someone here can help me out some. Several years ago I inherited a BSA Single XII 12ga single shot shotgun. It has a 32" barrel measured from the breach, a low profile hammer, the break release is a "trigger" just forward of the trigger guard. It has the following markings: .729 BNP (nitro powder proof), 12 in a box, 2 3/4" (although when I had it in my shop it chambered a 3 1/2" shell, and I know it wasn't made for anything larger than the 2 3/4"), Trade Marks BSA with the BSA 3 stacked rifles logo, Made In England, all on the right side, and Single XII on the left in a banner, on the top of the barrel: The Birmingham Small Arms Co. LTD. England. It's also got a serial number of YB2936 on the locking lug.

I've tried several searches, and checked all of my reference material and cannot find any information on it. Hopefully someone out there knows at least a time frame when it was manufactured. Looking forward to knowing more about this neat little single shot. Thanks in advance.

    Went through my references, only thing I found was the name changed from "Birmingham Small Arms Co. Ltd", to "BSA Guns Ltd.", in 1919.

    Kinda strange, just went through my proof mark book.

    The proofs you list are the ones used AFTER 1954, at the Birmingham England Proof House.

    Obviously there is something wrong here. We have a disconnect of at least 35 years, i.e. between the data given in the two references.

    I can't explain it? Other then your shotgun was reproved years after it was originally manufactured?

    Thanks Rufe, I found the same thing. I did however at least find a couple for sale in England on my last search, they're only going for around $50-$100 after the conversion from pounds to dollars. Its still a neat gun for a single shot.

    Just looked into My database: BSA Guns Ltd.... Between the 1st and Second World Wars, BSA made a range of Single and Side By Side Shotguns based on the Modified Anson & Deeley actions. They made the Standard which was very plain, and the Standard with Ejector/s and the Special or often called the Model de Luxe that also came with an Ejector/s. They also offered a Wildfowling Model chambered for the 3 inch Shell....all in 12 Bore...
    BSA Guns limted went into liquidation on 13 june 1986 and re-opened on July 1, 1986 Some rifles are being manufactured in Karachi by 'Pakistani Group', and BSA UK has shipped all the Machinery to Pakistan..Shotgun manufacture as of this date as not resumed.......
