The gun was made in 1947. Not sure on the price but I saw a few at the gunshops today that were around $500 to $600 and they were all in pretty good condition.

Good evening Prof and Win M12: Prof you don't say how long the barrel is, or what the choke is. Is it a plain barrel, solid rib, after market vent rib? They did make Field, Skeet, Trap grade guns. Plain stocks or checkered? I have a couple in that range also, nice early post war Md 12s.

Win M12: funny thing about gun shops and used guns, the asking price and selling price aren't always the same. I have to ask you, what type of Md 12s did you see?

Rule of thumb: A md 12 Field gun with a 30 in Full choke, plain barrel is the most common. 32 in. full choke guns are rarer. Your 28 and 26 in barreled Md 12s with a more open choke, will command 10-30% more than a Full choke gun. The rarest choke is Imp/Mod. Md 12s with an after market rib such as a Simmons, Money Maker, Poly Choke, or something else are only shooters, not collectables. How ever in 1954 Simmons and Winchester did team up for the Donut style post and Cylinder post Ribs. If you see a Md 12 with one of those ribs, look to make sure you see a little Oval with the PW stamped in it, (Proof Mark) on the left side of the receiver ramp and barrel near the receiver. If you see the words Simmons Gun Specialties on the side of the rib it was put on after it left the factory.

There were so many different versions and special order Md 12s I can't possibly tell you about all of them. Some books, you may want to read, Dave Riffles "The Greatest Hammerless Repeating Shotgun Ever Built", Ronald Stadt's "Winchester Shotguns and Shotshells", and George Maddis' The Winchester Model 12". a wealth of info.

    Regards Dave

The one that caught my attention was the Featherweight model for $495 in 12 guage and if I remember correctly it had an IMP CYL choke. There was also a trap model with the word trap printed on the shotgun for $595. All the Model 12's were a little different from each other.

Is a Model 12 Featherweight in good condition worth $495???

Win Md 12: Since that Md12 Featherweight has an Imp/cly, it's on the rarer side. I've have not seen one before, usually they are Mod. or Full choke guns. It would be a super quail or dove gun!! If it's in 90% condition or better, I might go that high. Bet you could get it for $450 cash. As for the Trap for $600, it sounds like a Solid Rib Trap gun for that price. I would want to check to make sure it hasn't been reblued and what notch the barrel adjustment was on. It may look nice, but it could be worn out too. checking the choke with a dime, would tell you if the barrel has been shot out. (A dime wont enter the muzzle of a full choke gun). Regards Dave
