QUESTIONS ON COLT MODEL 1911, 45 AUTO ARMY ISSUE

A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A COLT M-1911 5 DIGIT SN. STAMPED FOR US ARMY PROPERTY OF UNITED STATES. IT HAS PARKERIZED GREENISH BROWN FINISH, CHECKERED WALNUT GRIPS, AND IT IS IN 99% COND. WOULD THIS BE AN ALL ORIGINAL 1911 AND WHAT WOULD THE VALUE BE?

    Standard Finish on the Colt 1911 was Military Blue...Parkerization was the Military Finish for WW2 and by then Colt and sub-contractors were using the Parkerization Finish...Sounds to me like you have a Re-finished 1911..If it was Standard Issue and original the value could be in excess of $2500.00...as a rework....maybe $500.00.....

    My Colt mfg'd 1911A1 was made in 1944 according to ser #. It is blued, so I'm sure that is a refinish. Has the correct reddish-brown plastic grips. It was inherited, so I don't know much of it's history. A fine shooter with military ball (although the hammer does eat on the hand webbing!)and even better with the Ciener conversion .22LR kit.

    By whom was his gun manufactured? This has allot to do with the value if it is of this vintage.
