    Welcome to the forum!

The walnut grips must be an after market, least ways I've never seen one w/ that style grip. Anyway use the following link to find the style revolver that you saw.

    http://www.taurususa.com/products/gunselector-results.cfm

enter revolver under category and select 44 special under caliber, leave finish blank to see all of the different finish options.

I believe some time ago Taurus made these and the models were the 431 and the 441. The 431 had fixed sights and the 441 had adjustable and they had wood grips from the factory. GOOD GUNS

    Thanks,

    greenhead,

zinc is correct. I just pulled my stainless Taurus 44 special out of the safe and it is a model 441. Mine was sent back to Taurus by the previous owner to have it factory tuned and it has a better cylinder lock-up than any of my smith & wesson's. It also has the walnut grips that you described. I have shot it once and it performed very well. Like the recoil of the 44 special much more than my 44 mag.
