I am not a collector of commeratives but-if the gun has all papers and box-never fired -never looked upon naked eyes-sell the sucker.
The receiver is made of cast steel. Winchester did a number on the post 1964's-model 94's. The post 64 receivers are cast steel and they
black chromed them as they would not take a blue. If your heart is intent upon this project-the receiver will take a French Grey.
I suggest selling and purchasing a real gun. 101

    I'll second 101's suggestion.

I can appreciate your disdain for the post-64 model 94's especially as it concerns its collectability. However, I didn't buy this for collector value. I bought it because I like the octagonal barrel, the fact that it doesn't have angle eject or a lawyer-induced safety, and because I want to use it. [:)]

Thanks for the info on the receiver finish. Can anyone speak to the durability of the black chrome finish? Also, I never got an answer as to whether any pre-64 parts will fit a post-64 rifle.
