AK-47 scope mount
I need help finding a scope for my AK-47. The scope that came with it goes out of focus everytime I fire the gun. The rings are a little stripped so I want to get new rings too. The rail looks like it does not come off of the gun don't see any screws*(it is mounted on top of the gun not on the side) Problem is when I went to the store to find rings that would fit the rail nothing is that small. ANy ideas? Rings are not adjustable correct, for sizing? Thanks.

Ok I see how the top piece comes off. Doesn't seem like it would stay on there that good. Can someone explain to me what options I have as far as getting set up with a scope on this gun. Do they sell a top rail or top piece for that matter that bolts to the gun not just tightened down with like a set screw? THanks 0 -
I don't know if anyone else can figure out what your setup is but from reading threw it, it sounds like you have a rail mounted on your dust cover?

If that is the case I don't see how it could stay accurate, get a good mount that slides onto the mounting bracket on the left side of your receiver "believe its for a grenade sight" they make a few different ones look at this.

I have a similar made one with a simple pivoting clamp on the bottom instead of the screws for faster removale how ever mine cost around 80+0 -
Yep you exactly right the rail is mounted to the dust cover. Thanks. So your saying that no scope will stay accurate mounted to this? If so the link you provided that is what I need to order? Also where can I find rings that will fit that? I have noticed that most guns have thicker rails than the AK-47's. THanks again. 0 -
I wont say it wont stay accurate but I dont see how it could, the dust cover just snaps in place and can move slightly, not to mention all the moving parts are right below the dust cover, I would want my scope mounted to a solid mounting point.
I am not sure what type rings your dust cover uses but the link provided uses standard weaver rings, your dust cover rail may be using .22 rail mounts? Don't know if thats the correct term but its a smaller rail than a weaver setup.

That uses a standard weaver rail so you can get rings at any gunshop for it.
I personally would never buy a dust cover mounting system for an ak it just does not look solid to me.0 -
I agree with you, I have seen now how silly the idea is of having a scope on the dust guard. What were they thinking?
Anyways can you guys help me with a couple things. First off I need the scope rail that is not on the dust guard. Second I need to find a couple 40 rd clips that are able to be used with the magazine clamp. And third I need to find a magazine clamp. Found a bunch of these at cheaper than dirt.com but don't know which ones to buy. Thanks again.0 -
you have an old ak mount made by leaper!!! yes it does take 22 dovetail rings!!!! there is no way to make this mount stay rigid!!!! use it next time you go fishing for a sinker!!!there are only about two good choices available {1} B-square makes a mount that encapsulates the receiver, in which you replace the receiver pins [which are provided] it is a weaver base and comes with rings!!! you can still remove your dust cover for cleaning!!!! [2] locate a side rail and have someone drill and tap the receiver on the lefthand side, there are 2 or3 uppers available for this type of system. {2} by clearview, one is a weaver top rail and the other is with built in 1 inch rings---the other is a latch over system with a weaver top rail made in BELRUS russia, all three are priced at about $40.00 for the mounts. the side rail is about $20.00----the B-sguare is higher, but sure is a lot simplier to install. if you need help, contact me,email---hatchett2003@yahoo.com 0 -

It says it comes with the rings too.
Curious should I replace the dust cover with something else or just leave since it won't be providing any function. Problem is the rail is welded onto the dust cover, so I am wondering if the B-square above will clear it? Thanks again.0 -
the B-square should clear the mount that you have on the dust cover. it may be tight trying to get the dust cover off for cleaning. i havent run into that situation . it will be close!!!! you will just have to try it!!!! good luck--happy shooting!!!! 0 -
I can take it off to clean it. Just hope it clears the rail that is welded to the dust cover.
