The only thing I can remember about them is the case is longer than most 22LR. From years gone by.. I know that some guns have problems with the longer case. Had a AMT Backup that did not like them.

    Thanks for all the help!

Have you by any chance shot a lot of shorts or longs thru that rifle?
If so the longer case of the stinger may have caused the stinger not to fully chamber and when fired it was out of battery.
Too bad you didn't find the case it probably would told more of the story.
I have fired 1000's of rnds thru my M60 all LR or Stingers with out a problem other than the recoil buffer has been replaced (A weak link on all M-60's)

Thanks for the replies. The gun has only had a couple of hundred rounds through it and nothing but Federal and Remington LRs - no shorts or longs. I'm sure that the gun was not in battery and blew the bolt back before the round was ignited and fully burned. I'm going to check the case length.

The stinger ammo has the same overall length as the regular .22 LR.
The way they are able to make it hyper-fast is they shortened the bullet and slightly lengthened the case to accomodate more powder.

As mentioned, it sounds like an out of battery shot or an over charged case. You could also have had a ruptured case. If the case were to rupture during extraction you might get the same results.

I had a ruptured case on an M-1 Carbine, and got a face full of pressure and heat just as you did. I was lucky enough to find the case to confirm it.
