Shotgun question

I have a Hopkins & Allen lever action drop block single shot 12 ga.
ser.# 1417. This weapon has one single ring screw to remove the barrel.lower front of reciever block. Age? Value? good condition.
Thanks for any help.

    I have a H&R Topper 88 12ga. in 3" full. I was wanting to know if I can shoot magnum turkey loads in this gun safely. Thanks for the help! earndawg

    I use a 20 alot and have killed everything with it but I know my
    limits and the guns
    24 inch is alittle short 26 is better and 28 is good also
    I like a 26inch ,Then for geese I slap in a extended choke tube

    THE 20 GA. WORKS WELL OVER DECOYS IN THE 3" MAGS.
    GEESE HAVE A THICK COAT OF FEATHERS THAT IS HARD TO PENETRATE WITH STEEL SHOT IN # 2-4 . I DON'T KNOW IF THEY OFFER T'S ,F'S AND B.B. FOR THE 20 GA. , IF NOT TRY ONE OF THE NON-TOXIC'S LIKE BISMUTH ,TUNGSTEN OR HEAVY SHOT FOR BETTER RESULTS.

    As the others said, over decoys and known ranges, the 20 is fine. You may have to work the birds a little more, but that makes you a better hunter anyway. On geese, practice focusing on head shots. Too may shooters focus on the body and the thick plumage stops the steel shot. Imp.Cyc choke is good over decoys, Mod. for jump shooting.

    20 will kill anything in North America, no question. I would stronly advise a longer barrel, as it will probably help your pattern, as well as give you a much smoother swing. Consider reloading if you are going into waterfowl, as it will save you a lot of money on the non-toxic shells, and you can doctor your loads for that extra goose-stopping power. Good luck.

    I never used a 20gauge on Geese but I did use a little Ithica 20 S X S with 25" barrels on ducks and as long as I kept the ranges to 35 yards and under it killed everything that I managed to hit. Just remember that it does not have near as many shot in the pattern as a 12 gauge does, do use 3" shells on ducks, keep the ranges under 35 yards and you should do fine with a 20. I don't have any experience with steel shot in the 20 , having never put one single round of steel through a 20 gauge barrel. The only shortcoming my 20 had was the barrel length--I would have like it to have 28" barrels on it to make it swing a little smoother. But that was a personal preference of mine. Patterns are determined by the choke or choke tubes and barrel length has very little effect on patterns.

    My experience has been that in identical guns with the same chokes, longer barrels have slightly more pattern density at longer ranges. I don't know why it is, but I call it like I see it.
