HK 91 clone or AK-47

I am curious I have the chance to purchase a AK-47 or a HK-91 clone(the parts are all HK except the receiver which is made by CETME). Each one is under 500. Was curious which one I should choose. Which is more accurate? Range? Thanks.

    Cameron 203, Without all information I would have to say generally speaking, the HK-91 beats the AK-47 in range and accuracy. However if you are looking for reliability the AK would be the better choice. The HK-91 and G3 style rifles tend to be very finicky when it comes to parts rifles. Especially in the head spacing. Good luck with your choice!

    In my opinion you have some time to decide. I would wait to see if the assault weapons ban expires this September. If it does, you'll be able to get whatever one you choose with more options on it(threaded barrel, folding stock) at a cheaper price than the pre-bans are going for now. I also think that the price of the post bans will drop if the ban expires.

    I can hardly wait for that date. I suspect theres going to be a lot of buyers that first day.

    Actually that receiver is made by Century, big difference! I tried doing the same, deciding between the 2, I went so far as putting 1/2 down on a Cetme, till I did a little reading. Everyone on here has heard this story from me but...
    The Cetme I put money on had a pin from the pinned on muzzle brake protruding up into the barrel. IMHO that's not a good thing! Either your accuracy will be way off or the gun will explode in your face. I pointed it out to the dealer who tried to clean the barrel, I was hoping it was just some crud, not so. The dealer called RSR whole bought these from Century and asked them to see if they could find me one with out the pin sticking up, no such luck.

    I bought the Romanian SAR1 (Century puts in the hammer trigger Group & pistol grip only, the rest is made by the Romanians) instead and have been very happy with it. Back to the Cetme, I did notice that Century was selling a bunch recently w/o a muzzle brake. I get the feeling RSR made Century take back a bunch of cetme's so many that Century most likely started sawing off muzzle brake. Here's pic of my SAR1:

    If you are still interested in an HK type rifle check out the PTR91, cost double that of a Cetme but are really nice guns.

    so what kind of ak's should I look for? There are so many most have no maker markings on them.

    So the CETME's are HK parts with a CETME made receiver correct? That is what the seller told me.

    CETME's are NOT HK parts, Century does in fact make a G3 clone that has HK parts. Personally I would pick the CETME, I wouldnt be hesitant to say that buying my CETME was one of the best purchases I have made!!! It is very accurate and very powerful, the 20rd HK mags are both plentiful and cheap and you can get .308 for $100/1000rds. If you do decide to buy a CETME one thing to look for is the front sight, make sure it is straight...I have seen some that were bent.

    No I am positive it said HK-91 clone with real HK-91 parts and CENTME receiver. Double checked it was in a dealer mag.

    dealers may market the Century made CETME as an HK91 clone. In fact it is a predecessor to the HK 91. The CETMEs made by Century are made from parts kits on CENTURY built receivers. The quality control at Century Arms is not very good and, although you may get a really reliable gun, the odds are you will get a junker that will have to be tweaked significantly before you can trust it 100%.

    the original CETMEs go for about 5 times as much as the Century junkers. Don't always take advertising as 100% truth.

    I would go with the AK if you want something fun to shoot and you just need to satisfy your craving. If you can wait a bit and put some more $$$ together, get the PTR-91 made by JLD Enterprises. It is all made here in the US and made from brand new parts. Cost on that is about $700 new.
