Best affordable 1911 clones

I know Kimber and the like make outstanding 1911's. Who makes the best affordable ones?

    I can't speak for all of the 1911's out there, but I've had very good luck with the Springfield Armory 1911. I bought the loaded 1911 about three years ago for $579 and I'm very pleased with the performance and accuracy. Nice finish and very reliable.
    Years ago I had a Thompson Auto- Ordnance 1911. The very first time out, the front sight fell off. Sent it back for repair, which was a pretty quick turn around, but had many malfunctions in feeding and ejecting. Ended up selling it.

    I bought a Rock Island 1911 last summer for around $300 and have been very pleased with it. Have about 400 rounds through it so far and have not had any problems. I'm thinking of dressing it up a little with an adjustable rear sight, etc. Don't know how long it will last but has been good so far.

    Might look at Springfield Armory Mil-Spec WWII...around $450.00....excellent platform to start with and can accomodate lots of additional goodies if you are so inclined..

    Let me first qualify my comments with the fact that I cannot carry, keep in my vehicle, or regularly shoot a handgun I paid more than $800 for.

    I don't think you can stray far with Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. They are reasonably priced, not cheap, but reasonable. I picked one up last September with a bbl/bushing upgrade, lowered eject port, and flared mag well. The factory trigger was a little heavy, but broke clean and crisp. At about 700-800 rounds now and it was the best bang for the $450 bucks I have ever spent. It is not as smooth as my podnuhs Colt that he has over $ 1000 in, but I can still shoot his pants off. (hope you're readin this bubba)

    Now if you mean cheaper than affordable, we have the Firestorm standard gov't model, I know we did not pay $ 150 for a few years ago. That model has been reviewed by several folks, some said it was OK, some said it stank. My boys like it, probably because I don't care much about it. All I can say is it has had about 1500 rounds through it and feels like you could cycle the action by giving it a hard shake. However, it is tight enough in battery to generally shoot in the black at 25 ft. It has eaten any ammo put through it without hanging up as far as I know. It is also supposed to have a lifetime warranty, but I have no idea how good that is.

    check into the new DAN WESSON lineup of 1911 45acps!!!! really good quility, no ruff edges and they WILL SHOOT!!!!! priced around $550.00

    I too suggest looking at the Dan Wesson line,they are a lot of gun for the money.
