Vintage Winchester Ammo

I recently came by a few boxes of vintage Winchester Repeater 16ga. paper shot shells in two part boxes with the word "BRUSH" stamped on them. Any one have any info as to the age or value? Thanks, Pogybate

    Good morning pogybate. Two piece boxes are from pre-WWII era. Since the box says: Winchester Repeater on it, the label should be yellow on white, with red and blue print? These would be from the 1930s, the value goes by condition, from rough and readable to like new condition, there is a big price range, the condition of the shells is important too, from shiney brass to coroded. Not a lot of these come up for sale, so depending on the condition, $40- $150 a box. If you could tell us the condition, I'm sure someone could give you a better idea what they are worth. also the length, are they 2&9/16 or 2&3/4?
    Look under the collectable ammo category and see if you find any and what they are selling for. Nice find, just keep them cool and dry, they will continue to go up in value!! Again if you can answer my questions, I can give you a better idea of there worth. Regards Dave

    Thanks for the info Dave, I looked at the ammo site and found nothing. Actually these 16ga. are only 23/8" long 1 OZ. 71/2 shot and 21/2 grams of dupont black powder. Boxes are dirty but well readable and the shells are excellent. You have the color right and the word BRUSH is black and at a angle. Im finding these old ammo boxes are hard to come by as time goes on. Thanks again, Neil

    Pogybate: this keeps getting better! First the 2&9/16 or 2&3/4 is after the shell is fired, you measure the over all length. Since these shells are "Black Powder" I would bet they are 2&9/16, since that is what the "Black Powder" guns were chambered for. My book has the Winchester Repeater Brush loads in "Smokeless Powder" not Black Powder. I have never seen what you have. But if you can take a picture, ("digital" and email it to me for verification), you have some valueable shells and boxes for the SERIOUS Winchester collector.     Hey -" only Winchesters"... Whats the value of Winchester "Brush Loads" from the 1960's with plastic,poly formed tubes? (16 guage No.8
    ) BOX 90% ALL 25 shells in 100% condition.

    Good afternoon Old Hickory: Well most collectable shells are paper, but you just may have one of the few in "plastic". The "Brush Loads" first appeared in the 1920s, so you would have one of the last in the series. To a real collector who wants to finish there series, this is just an educated guess, somewhere from $17.50 to maybe $40. Which really isn't a bad return, since thes sold for less than $3.00, 40 years ago. The best way to see what it's worth, put it up for auction here at GB under the collectable ammo section, with a reserve. A good photo will make the difference. Hope this helps. Regards Dave
