Need help with Restoring/Parts

I'm restoring an old Remington model 12c slide action 22lr. My questions are simple ones. I recently obtained a firing pin from another model 12, but its barely striking the rim. Do I have the wrong firing pin or is there an adjustment that can be made? The other question I have is about the blueing. Should one absolutely stay away from the "perma blue" product or is this a good start for a hobbiest like me, trying to make an oldy a goody. Be advised this thing was seized and would not budge. Resoring it is it's only hope of being on a wall hanger or firing ever again.[:(][?]

    I am not familiar with this particular model, but some things are common to all weapons of this type.
    If the weapon was frozen, I would look inside the firing pin channel for debris and or rust flakes. The friction caused by such can hinder the inertia of the hammer strike/striker travel.
    If the firing pin has a spring, check that it is not distorted. The bend can again be a source of friction in the firing pin channel.
    Another possible cause is on the old guns, the firing pin end may be mushroomed from repeated strikes. Usually this can be remedied with a jewelers file.

    As to the bluing. Try a product called Blue Wonder. Get the cleaner too and follow the instuctions as to the heating of the metal. Very good results can be obtained with this product, even by a novice.

    I don't have alot of experience with this model either but two things you might try after a very good strip&clean.check the hammer spring to make sure it has sufficient strength.also check the firing pins tip for shape sometimes you can do a slight touchup and it will improve primer penetration.good luck with your project [:D]

    As far as the bluing. It may come as a surprise but you can obtain a very nice finish with the perma blue.Just be patient with the application.use a semi-course steel wool to strip any residue left after removing the old bluing.Then wash with hot soapy water,rinse and dry with a hair dryer. apply the perma blue generously with cotton repeat wash and rinse hit it lightly with fine steel wool then oil. (before oiling repeat rins,buff and blue until you get the finish you want)after oiling it will look very nice.

    Thanks guys,
    The firing pin was replaced and the shape was fine. The length, I've found varies slightly from model to model & production date to production date. I asked a local GS and he advised that adding or taking or even a combination could be done to adjust the firing pin. I ended up brazing (welder broke last week waiting on parts) a bit at the rear to extend the stricker and filed a bit of the front side to allow the pin to travel far enough. Results are perfect contact. The finish will done this weekend. Thanks guys.[8D]
